Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is used to smooth out wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that cause these wrinkles and lines to appear. An important takeaway from this procedure is that it is not a miracle treatment and cannot address profound wrinkles that have been present for years with no treatments. In such cases, dermal filler may be needed to fill in those deeper wrinkles. Another use of Botox that is performed at doctors’ offices rather than cosmetic clinics is to treat migraines by injecting around the face and neck specifically to alleviate these concerns and provide relief to the client for some time.
Lip Flip With Botox
Additionally, botox can be used to perform a well-known procedure; the lip flip can make the lips appear more full without the use of filler itself. The practitioner will inject Botox in certain points around the lips causing an upward inversion (“flip”) in return, making the lips appear more prominent with just a few simple injections. Typically this procedure would just be anywhere from 4-6 units of Botox itself but for some individuals up to 8 may be necessary to see results. At Elysium Beauty Clinic in Maple, our injectors have performed this procedure for many years and clients leave happy with the results being shown in just 1-2 weeks after the Botox starts to take effect.
Botox for Hyperhidrosis
Surprisingly to some, another use of Botox is to treat Hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating) specifically for the underarms as it blocks a certain part of the process in which the body will cause sweat. Of course, this procedure is not a permanent solution but, it will certainly help for some time. After that period, the treatment must be repeated if the client wishes to maintain that result.
Longevity and Immunity
The longevity of Botox varies per person but, the typical range is 3-4 months (Patient-based, for some it lasts even longer, and for some, it may last less) Afterwards, the treatment will have to be repeated if the person wishes to maintain the result. It is important to note that with repeat treatments, it is possible to develop immunity over time due to antibodies our immune system produces against Botox. Another possibility is that for a tiny percentage of people, the injections will not work on those who have natural immunity to Botox even without being previously exposed to it.
Contraindications/Downtime
Botox complications are rare and usually only occur from inexperienced injectors. At Elysium Beauty Clinic located at Maple, our injectors have over 10 years of experience and will ensure your botox treatment goes smoothly while attending to all the clients’ concerns. Regarding other side effects, the most common that everyone will experience is simply the pain from the injection itself, which most describe as tolerable, and possibly some irritation, tenderness, and bruising in the area that will go away. Another factor to keep in mind if you are someone who is doing Botox for the first time is that there is no way to get rid of Botox once it has been injected, the individual will have to wait a certain period for it to fully wear off.
Precautions/Aftercare
General precautions include avoiding alcohol 24 hours before the procedure so that no adverse effects occur after injections. The practitioner will also need information on any current medications that may interfere with the treatment. In terms of aftercare, the client must stay upright, not lying down for three to four hours, and avoid physical stress for the day of the injections.
